Stepmania - Katy Perry - This is How We Do

If someone had told me a month ago that I would be making my own stepfiles to exercise to, I wouldn't have believed them. It's not easy, but it's been fun to learn. I'd like to share my results and hope others like it too.

The song 'This is How We do' didn't sound like an easy song to put arrows to at first. I had to go with a faster BPM. The result, however, turned out to be lots of fun. I did a footcam with it, but I didn't have time to edit it in.

Dietbet Game

I'm playing in a DietBet challenge where I will compete to lose 4% of my weight in four weeks. The game will start on 05/01/2014.

Join me today

I recently found this app in the App Store, and I'm excited to get started. Dietbet calls itself a 'social dieting' site. You basically join a game and put a few bucks in the pot. If you lose your 4% (for me, that's 6 lbs), you get your money back plus whatever is divided from the pot due to anyone else in the game who lost their bet (meaning they were slackers and didn't lose the weight).

I joined a game where the bet amount is $10, I figure the worst that could happen is I lose the cost of a lunch haha.

The weigh-in is tomorrow, so wish me luck!

Fitbit and Wii Fit Accomplishments

Today has been a very busy day! I got my first 25k badge on Fitbit, made my Wii Fit weight goal, & hit the number one spot on my Fitbit leaderboard.

Not bad if I do say so myself! I might've gotten a little TOO excited. I posted the leaderboard pic on Facebook and taunted my Fitbit buddies on there. I wrote something along the lines of, "Now HA! Roll THAT up and smoke it, Bee-atches!!"

I should enjoy my victory for today. I'll be eating their dust tomorrow...

Using the Wii to Lose Weight

A little update on me first. Things have been crazy since Christmas. The mother-in-law had back surgery and I took care of her while she has been recovering. Then a month ago, I got sick with a nasty bug that didn't want to go away. I am feeling better now. Not being able to workout for awhile was just the opportunity I needed to re-evaluate my regimen and change things around. Not to mention watching myself fall lower and lower on the Fitbit leader board as I couldn't exercise made me that much more determined to get back to it ASAP.

I decided to take a break from DDR for the moment and enjoy working out on my Wii for awhile instead. I hopped onto my balance board to do a weight check for the first time in ..... over a year! I felt guilty for neglecting Wii Fit while I was playing other movement games on the PC and Xbox Kinect. Would you believe I made my Wii Fit goal I'd forgotten about? Better late than never haha! I am still just a hair above the line for being in the 'Normal' weight range. I only have 1.5 lbs to lose to get out of the 'Overweight' zone on Wii Fit's graph. That's not too bad, I don't think.

So I set a new goal of 2 lbs in 2 weeks. Then I went on to some exercises. I can't believe how much my stamina has suffered from being sick! The hula hoop exercise nearly killed me (I did a 6 min, then the 10 min one). I forgot how much that one works your waistline.

Then I flipped over to Just Dance. I sold Just Dance 2 on eBay a few months ago. I regret it now, so I bought it again along with the 2014 one and Zumba World Party! I love them all! I've been playing these along with Just Dance Summer Party.

The thing I love most about using dancing games as a workout is that my kids get to play along with me. We laugh at ourselves and each other when the dance moves get really goofy (let's be honest, MOST of the choreography in Just Dance is goofy). When it gets most fun is when we know the dances to the songs by heart and can really get into it. We all have fun and get a great workout at the same time.

Besides having fun with the kiddies, my goal has been to get up early in the morning to weigh in to Wii Fit and get in a Just Dance workout before I get the kids up for school. I don't have much weight to lose this time around and I know I can do it with my Wii games and a sensible diet.

Recent Accomplishments: Dance Masters and Rhythm Party

I thought I would take a moment to mention a couple of my latest exergaming accomplishments. First of all, I completed all of the Xbox achievements for Dance Masters! It only took me 2 years lol.

I really didn't think I was going to get all 450 hidden ripple stars. I had DD10's help on some of it. We played 2-player mode. She would choose 'Light' difficulty and I would choose whatever difficulty I was going for stars on. I made sure I danced the routine correctly to fill the dance gauge, and she would hold out her hand to trigger parallel universe at the right time.

I also 100%'ed Rhythm Party. That one was much easier except for one: the Rhythm Master Achievement. To get that one, I had to do sort of a half squat motion to the beat of the song to get rhythm tricks... for the ENTIRE song! It took multiple tries due to the Kinect being dicey about detecting me properly. After about a minute, my legs were screaming! When the achievement popped, I didn't even have it in me to yell hurray. I just collapsed on the floor to pull myself together for a moment. I'm glad I don't have to do that again lol.

So yea, that's what I was up to for awhile. I tried Your Shape Fitness Evolved after that but I got bored with it. I prefer dancing games over formal exercise games. I'm back to DDR for now :-)

A Minor Setback and Zumba on the Wii

Yesterday was a setback for me. Long story short, I didn't eat mindfully at all. I ate a ton more than I've been eating during the day this whole week. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I had trouble sleeping the night before and barely got 4 hours in? Does anyone else find that they eat more when they are tired?

A positive thing is that I was active all day long. I decided to change around the curtains in my house. I took down the old ones and threw them all in the washing machine and put up different ones from storage. Helps keep my home decor looking fresh. I also wanted the heavier curtains to help keep us cooler as the weather gets hot this summer.

I also got caught up on the rest of my housework. We spent a lot of time outside all weekend and I neglected my indoor duties.

I tried out the Zumba fitness game on the Wii (the first one). I had actually purchased it at a good price from Amazon several months ago, but put it in the drawer when it arrived; one of those 'I don't have time' things.

At first I was disappointed. I'm one of those people who found the Zumba DVD set hard to follow. We don't have a gym here that has Zumba classes and even if we did, I wouldn't have the time or money to go. The DVD's just frustrated me. The music was great. The dancing was fun. But it was just too fast. As soon as I felt I was getting the hang of the current dance move, the instructors are on to the next. Before long I would be lost. Apparently I have no Latin dance skills whatsoever.

I don't know why I thought the Wii game would be different (aka easier). After creating a profile and starting the first 20 class, my first thought was, "Oh crap. It's the very same dance routines and songs from the DVD set... :-( "

But I'm a good sport, and since I was already standing in the living room with the Wii remote tucked into my Zumba belt, I decided I would give it a go anyway.

By the second song I was saying, "Hey, I remember this!" and, "I remember this one too, this is that Cumbia move!" " Maybe this isn't so bad after all? :-) "

By the end of the class, I was glistening (that's my word for sweating), and smiling. I guess this is what Zumba newcomers experience when they keep showing up for the classes and at some point the dances just start to stick and they "get it".

Am I good at Zumba? No way! Did I enjoy the game anyway? Yes! The good thing about the Wii's scoring is that it's very lenient. As long as you're wiggling your hips and moving around, it tells you you're doing great. This is great for me because I know I can't do the dances perfectly and it reinforces the idea that the point is to keep moving and have fun with it. I would be up a creek if I tried playing this game on the Kinect.

I wanted to do more than just the short 20 minute session, but I didn't have time (remember I was washing those curtains). But I will complete the rest of the classes on the game over the next few weeks.

I still did my one hour stint on DDR later that evening. I got some pretty goods scores and I want to do some new videos soon. I'm SO close to full combo-ing that Double Tornado song, but the jumps are what kills me every time.

The idea of the day was to stay moving and wear myself out so I would sleep better that night. I managed 6 hours of sleep, so I guess that's not bad...
